The business was founded when Gary identified a need in the industry for customised HSE solutions. The head office is in Bryanston, Gauteng Province, South Africa and there is a branch office in Kloof, Kwazulu Natal. We are a level 4 BEE company and fully compliant in South African law.

We are able to offer customised HSE Solutions in Auditing HSE Management systems. The SORMS Integrated Audit Protocol is an Integrated HSE Management System audit protocol that consists of 7 sections. The protocol is risk based and considers the appropriate controls that are put in place following a risk assessment. The outcome also considers the injury rates experienced over an audit exposure period. The outcome is a Star Rating of 1 to 5 Stars, with 5 Stars being the ultimate outcome.
Internal Audits are also conducted with clients at their request, meeting the requirements of various audit protocols and preparing them for certification audits including ISO9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and NOSA.
We also offer clients an independent audit on their own in house or corporate specific protocols.
The law does not allow you to outsource your legal obligations, but you may outsource the hassle factor.
We offer clients various managed service options whereby we provide HSE Officers to clients determined by there needs.
This varies by the size and nature of operations, and may entail placing a full time officer on site or periodic site visits.
This service ensures that all your checks and controls are in place, are used effectively and thereby reduces the risk of incidents on site.
Our consultants all have experience in the implementation and maintenance of HSE Management Systems. Our services include assessments of your current legal compliance status, review of the effectiveness of your system, project planning and implementation planning and role out up to certification.
We also conduct Risk assessments in the workplace and assist clients in customising there system to extract maximum value.
We also assist with incident investigation offering an independent investigator to either lead or participate in the investigation team.
We assist with all the legal reporting and follow up enquiries.
SORMS offers various HSE training courses from a management level to basic entry level courses pitched at the general workforce.
We specialise in adapting course material to be client specific with a strong focus on practical implementation. Competency is evaluated in the working environment adding further value to the client.
We also design various workshops at the request of clients and carry out training either at the client workplace or at external facilities.
The total wellness of employees is an integral part of any risk management program that is often neglected.
We offer drug and alcohol awareness programs which is followed through with testing, counselling and where necessary rehabilitation both in the workplace and in external rehabilitation facilities.
SORMS is able to facilitate surveys as per the clients needs and risk profile.
We will ensure that clients receive the appropriate level of service, that the survey adds value, is interpreted and assist with the development of corrective actions.
We have affiliations to various approved inspection authorities in Occupational Hygiene, Fire, Lifting, Working at Heights and medical surveillance.

Which was received from NQA for operations in South Africa and the DRC. T3 Drilling is a Mauritian owned entity which specialises in exploration drilling, grade control, dewatering and other mine services. Run out of Mauritius, they currently have operations in South Africa, with multiple sites in Zambia and the DRC. Sorms was involved in the development and implementation at all sites.
Amy is a learner at Thomas More College in Kwazulu Natal with a keen interest in Risk Management. The visit exposed her to the industry, and the daily functions of an Occupational Risk Manager. Amy visited sites in the Eastern Cape, Northern Kwazulu Natal and the north coast.
Who retained their OHSAS 18001 certification and have now embarked on certification on the ISO 14001 code of practice, The Teichmann Group also retained their OHSAS 18001 certification with SGS and are now working towards 9001 certification.
On achieving a 3 Star grading on the first HSE audit. Inanda Seminary School is one of the oldest schools for girls in South Africa. It was founded in 1853 at Inanda, a settlement just over 20 miles north of Durban, by Daniel and Lucy Lindley, an American missionary couple.

Tree Tops School achieved a 5 Star Safety Rating at their Bellevue Road, Windmill Road and Silverton Road Campus, in Durban South Africa.

SORMS would like to congratulate Specialised Battery Systems who have received certification on the OHSAS 18001 Safety Management System from NQA. SORMS were involved in the developing and implementation of the Management System from the initial phase through to certification.
Mercedes Benz South Africa achieved certification to TS 16949 , OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 at the passenger car and commercial vehicle plant in East London. They were audited by TUV-SUD.
SORMS were engaged with PRAGMA who manages the asset care programme, to assist the Technical Site Services in the implementation of the relevant standards and to the ensure compliance to these standards. SORMS, PRAGMA and Technical
Site Services worked together in linking asset care, stores, maintenance and contractor control to the relevant codes of practice.

The report also presents the elements for establishing national and enterprises’ level programmes that contribute to ensure the sound management of chemicals at work.

SORMS was involved in the development of their management system and worked with Deltec Power Distributors on the implementation process. Deltec Power Distributors is a leading distributor of a wide variety of high quality imported maintenance free batteries. It operates as a division of Hudaco Trading (Pty) Ltd , a company listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange.
